Background
Corniche hospital is the leading maternity hospital in the United Arab Emirates with an annual delivery rate of 7,800.
Multi-Disciplinary Cardio Obstetric Clinic was established in 2007 to address an unmet need of pregnant women with cardiac disease.
More than 800 patients referred to this clinic over the last 14 years. Between October 2007 – September2023, 240 patients with structural heart disease had 334 pregnancies. Out of them 106 were with congenital heart disease.
Method
Retrospective data analysis of the pregnancy outcome of the patients with congenital heart disease.
Results - 165 pregnancies occurred in 106 patients with congenital Heart disease
Type of CHD
Non valvular lesions ( 70 ) includes - ASD , VSD ,PDA ,Co-Arctation of aorta , other aortic pathology , Tetra logy of Fallots , Epstein anomaly , other complex CHD 5 including ( LTGA - 1 , DTGA - 1 ) .
Valvular lesions - 36
Pulmonary valve - 6, Aortic valve - 6 , Tricuspid valve -2 and Mitral valve - 22 .
Risk stratification done as per modified WHO classification II.
Majority of them were UAE nationals , average maternal age was 29.81 years .
Average maternal age for the non valvular type 31.22 and valvular 24 .78 years
Maternal cardiac events 14 /139 ( 10.7 % ) . Overall maternal cardiac events was 21.25 % .
Conclusion
Maternal cardiac events occurred in only in 10.7 % of pregnancies. LSCS rate lowest in Congenital valvular group. Average birth weight highest and SGA rate were lowest in this group.
